The Danes are some of the happiest people in the world – and ALDI Denmark is also a leader when it comes to sustainability. Sustainable products play a particularly important role there.
Our Danish customers value environmentally friendly and local products highly. To meet their expectations, ALDI Denmark added 32 new organic products in 2017 and significantly increased the proportion of certified fish products. Since 2017, we have also carried products with the official animal welfare label for greater animal welfare in Denmark. Through product labelling, we offer our customers certainty that no genetically modified forage crops were used in food or in animal feed. At ALDI Denmark, we additionally engage in regular dialogue about sustainability with employees, our customers, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), networks and initiatives. Once a month, for example, we inform employees about current sustainability projects in a newsletter. In 2017, we joined the Danish Ethical Trading Initiative (Dansk Initiativ for Etisk Handel), which is dedicated to promoting responsible global trade by bringing together various different stakeholder groups and giving them the opportunity to discuss experiences and proven solutions. We also hope to intensify our networking activities with other players in future through the Danish Chamber of Commerce and discuss topics such as avoiding plastic and more sustainable packaging.

In 2017, roughly 75 per cent of our own-brand fish products were MSC, ASC or GLOBALG.A.P. certified or featured the EU organic label. In 2016, the proportion stood at 59 per cent.

certified palm oil
We are constantly increasing the proportion of certified palm oil in our food and non-food product ranges – from 91 per cent in 2016 to 96 per cent in the period under review.
